The Imbumba Foundation is a South African non-profit organisation founded in 2010 by social entrepreneur Richard Mabaso. The word 'Imbumba' means 'a bond' or 'unity,' symbolising the spirit of togetherness and the cycle of life. The foundation’s mission is to bring about social change and economic upliftment within rural and economically marginalised communities across Southern Africa.
Through its programmes — including Caring4Girls, Trek4Mandela, RISE, and CEO Projects — the Foundation provides mentorship, education, and empowerment initiatives aimed at addressing poverty, inequality, and gender challenges.
Vision and Approach
Imbumba’s strategic goal is to pioneer sustainable social innovations that foster collaboration between the public and private sectors. Their approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that developmental resources are effectively used to create measurable impact.
